[ENG] - Space and volume, stretched perspectives and blocked views, light and shadow, cold materials and warm products, rigorous spacial geometry and objects from the past. A residence in which internal and external areas contribute to create a unique and harmonious space, they cross and communicate; in which separated and defined elements give spacial continuity. The residence is located in a rectangular site, bordered on one side by a river, in an area full of underground springs. It is located 1 km from the historic center of a city in Veneto, characterized by the presence of waterways that weave in and out of the medieval walls, with obvious similarities to the nearby Venice. The intention was to mix these two fundamental elements; the wall and the water. They became the pivot points of the project. The floor plan is distributed with a formal compactness towards the north, in terms of both distribution and elevation. This gradually disintegrates in the south facing area of the ground floor, whilst maintaining compact the entire first floor. The architecture projects towards the garden on the south of the site. “The “walls” are covered in bush-hammered Istrian Yellow marble to emphasize their appearance of solidity, whilst vibrating the light in order to soften the atmosphere. These walls are positioned around a central fireplace in a turbine formation and are connected by full-height windows. There is a long and narrow water basin that sit's behind the fireplace, that stretches the perspective out towards the garden. Fire and water: heating and revitalization. But also a sort of optical device as the sky, the clouds and the passage of birds are reflected due to the black resin finish of the water basin.” Continuous spaces, but defined. “The intention was the retain a continuous environment for the living area, but with private areas created by planes to block the view, for example between the entrance and the living area and the wall containing the fireplace between the dining and living area. The kitchen is separated from the dining area with access via a full-height dividing panel the closes onto a continuous glass pane, providing visual continuity. So each area is linked visually, but well defined as a private space. Instead the north part of the residence is closed in on itself and contains the necessary services, such as guest bathroom, and utility rooms”. The architecture was developed to allow different use of the space based on the season. “In winter the house revolves around fireplace, whereas in the summer the interior space with all the windows opened the space expands to the far “wall”, and engages with the landscape beyond, forming a sort of hybrid between internal and external. The continuity is emphasized through the use of Botticino Pergamena marble, honed inside and sandblasted outside. The external “wall” frames the view of the garden and in the summer months channels the breeze arriving from the river cooling the outdoor living area, whilst also creating privacy for the external hot tub from nearby houses to the north of the site. The extended portico beyond the living area reduces both heating and cooling requirements of the interior. In the summer it protects the living area from the high sun, but doesn't block the low sun in winter. Outside of the kitchen a small wooden patio enclosed on three sides introduces a variation to the inside-out theme. The patio is openair, but with a connecting beam to the dividing wall in order to frame the sky”. The stairs begin at the entrance and lead towards a central position on the first floor, connecting with a short corridor to the 4 bedrooms. The master bedroom, placed towards the south has a large terrace with a fully glazed wall that connects to the ensuite bathroom. As with the ground floor the window adds the effect of spatial continuity, while there is a clear division of the two spaces. [ITA] - Pieni e vuoti, scorci prospettici e viste bloccate, luce e ombra, materiali freddi e prodotti caldi, rigore geometrico spaziale e oggetti della memoria. Una residenza i cui spazi interni ed esterni contribuiscono a creare un unico ambiente armonioso, si intersecano e comunicano tra loro razionalmente; in cui elementi separati e definiti riescono a dare un senso di continuità spaziale. La residenza si trova in un lotto dalla forma allungata confinante con un corso d'acqua, in una zona ricca di risorgive. Si trova a 1 km dal centro storico di una città veneta, contraddistinta dalla presenza di mura medievali e corsi d'acqua interposti, con evidenti analogie alla vicina Venezia. L'intenzione è stata quella di riprendere questi due elementi, il muro e l'acqua, e di renderli i cardini del progetto. L' impianto planimetrico garantisce compattezza formale a nord sia in planimetria che in alzato. Via via si disgrega verso sud, al piano terra, mantenendosi compatta al piano primo. L'architettura si protrae poi verso il giardino orientato a sud. “Il 'muro' è rivestito in marmo Giallo d'Istria bocciardato, che esalta l'aspetto di solidità, ma al tempo stesso fa vibrare la luce. I setti sono tra loro 'raccordati' attraverso superfici vetrate a tutta altezza e sono disposti a 'turbina', prendendo come fulcro il setto forato dal caminetto. Lo specchio d'acqua, stretto e lungo, si inserisce in posizione centrale, affiancandosi al camino, in modo da essere visibile sia dalla zona salotto, che dalla sala da pranzo e dalla cucina. Il fuoco e l'acqua: il calore domestico e il rinnovamento. Ma non solo, il corso d'acqua, in virtù del rivestito in resina nera, specchia il cielo, le nuvole e il passaggio degli uccelli, diventando una sorta di dispositivo ottico”. Spazi continui, ma ben definiti. “La volontà è stata quella di mantenere, per la zona giorno, un ambiente continuo, ma al tempo stesso separare gli ambiti. Una breve parete filtro separa l'ingresso dal salotto, la parete del camino-passante separa il pranzo dal salotto e la cucina è separata dal pranzo tramite una parete e pannello scorrevole a tutta altezza. La separazione non si percepisce come tale grazie alla vetrata che continua dalla zona pranzo e guida lo sguardo, offrendo continuità visiva. Gli ambiti risultano tra loro concatenati ma al tempo stesso sono ben definiti. La fascia a nord invece è, chiusa in sé stessa ed è stata destinata alla zona servizi- lavanderia, bagno per gli ospiti, caldaia e centrale elettrica”. Le scelte architettoniche consentono un uso diverso degli spazi in base alle stagioni. “Mentre d'inverno il camino è il punto focale e la vita domestica si gira intorno a esso, con la bella stagione le vetrate, grazie ad infissi impercettibili, fanno entrare il paesaggio in casa. La scelta di traslare un setto a sorreggere il porticato, è stata dettata dalla volontà di dilatare lo spazio interno creando uno spazio filtro ibrido, interno-esterno. La sensazione di continuità è ottenuta attraverso l'omogeneità di pavimentazione, marmo botticino pergamena, levigato opaco internamente e rullato all'esterno. La presenza del setto esterno, funge da quinta scenografica che inquadra la vista sul giardino. In estate inoltre, incanala la brezza che arriva dal corso d'acqua, rinfrescando la zona living esterna e riparando dall'aria e dagli sguardi la vasca idromassaggio esterna. Il porticato, generoso verso sud, ripara l'interno dal sole estivo, mentre d'inverno lascia entrare i raggi solari più bassi. Fuori della cucina, un piccolo patio chiuso su tre lati, rivestito in legno d'Ipè, introduce una variazione sul tema dello spazio interno-esterno. Qui la copertura è assente, ma una trave raccorda il portico alla parete di fondo, inquadrando il cielo”. La scala, disposta in prossimità dell'ingresso, conduce al piano primo in posizione baricentrica e le camere si susseguono. La camera padronale, disposta a sud, si affaccia su una grande terrazza attraverso una parete interamente vetrata che conduce al bagno. Come al piano terreno, la vetrata continua garantisce l'effetto di continuità spaziale, pur essendoci una netta divisione dei due spazi.
