EN-FR EN- Context This project consists of expanding the ‘Children of the World’ crèche at Nijvel. The building is located in a park setting of rural significance, the Dodaine park. Two wings with 18 places (sized for an increase to 25 children) will be added to the crèche plus various administrative rooms for staff and services. Besides this restrictions imposed by the site, this project presented the challenge of designing an energy-efficient building. Close cooperation and communication between the architect, sustainability consultant and municipal officials resulted in a decision to design the project according to a passive standard. The existing buildings are going to be renovated in the same spirit to make them energy-efficient. Architecture The architecture is completely in keeping with the building’s function (the playful world of children). It was logical to use wood for the structure and for the facades because of its warm look and feel and its technical properties. Along the ‘Wereldlaan’ the world of a child is immediately apparent through the size and positioning of the facade openings and the different colours used in the interior of the building. Engineering The south facade is very open and leads on to a large patio with a view of the park so as to benefit optimally from the improved sunning. The northeast and northwest facades are more closed in order to limit heat losses. The interaction of the roof slopes creates possibilities for natural ventilation and cooling. Team Arch. Jacques De Dixmude [project architect] FR- EXTENSION DE LA CRÈCHE COMMUNALE NIVELLES Bâtiment passif dans un cadre verdoyant Contexte Le projet porte sur l’extension de la crèche « les enfants du Monde » à Nivelles. Le bâtiment est placé dans une zone de parc et d’intérêt paysager, le parc de la Dodaine. Il s’agit de compléter la crèche existante de 2 sections de 18 places (dimensionnée sur base de 25 enfants inscrits par section), et de différents locaux, administratifs, pour le personnel et de services. En dehors des contraintes liées au site, le challenge était de concevoir un bâtiment durable et performant énergétiquement. Une communication et une collaboration très étroites entre l’architecte, le conseiller en architecture durable et l’administration communale ont mené à la décision de concevoir un projet respectant le standard passif. Dans le même esprit, des travaux de rénovation du bâtiment existant seront entrepris afin d’améliorer les performances énergétiques. Architecture L’architecture se veut en accord avec la fonction (l’univers ludique des enfants), sa situation (intégration par rapport au bâtiment existant et par rapport au parc voisin) et respectueuse de l’environnement. Tant pour les aspects durables que pour sa chaleur ou encore ses caractéristiques techniques, le bois s’impose pour la structure et les façades. Sur l’avenue du Monde, le monde de l’enfance s’exprime pleinement par les ouvertures, leur taille, leur positionnement et les différents colours à l’intérieure. Engineering La façade Sud est généreusement ouverte sur une vaste terrasse et sur le parc, tout en permettant raisonnablement au bâtiment de bénéfi cier des gains solaires. Les façades Nord-Est et Nord-Ouest sont, quant à elles, plus fermées pour limiter au maximum les déperditions thermiques.
