It is a temple built in the center of Tokyo. That in the site limited, to design a building of three different types were required. Usually, the building three different types in temple, is planed separately, but since the site is limited, selected a method of stacking. Around the building a stack, we are planning a corridor outside common in temple. Along this corridor, for a view of the approach, for a buffer between the main street, for to provide an oasis in the city center, We were planning to plant bamboo in the sky. In the bamboo forest, glassed bamboo made of Swarovski 108 pieces are mixed. This is a rosary in Buddhism, also a representation the world of the “gokuraku” that shines with the seven colors. If you look at the bamboo forest from inside, it should be forgotten that you are in the center of Tokyo In Giappone i complessi di templi buddisti sono tradizionalmente costituiti da zone funzionali distinte unite tra loro da una struttura di collegamento separata. A Tokyo l’area di progetto posta nel centro della città non era sufficientemente ampia da permettere di utilizzare questo schema, per cui la soluzione adottata per il Tempio Ekouin è stata quella di sovrapporre su tre livelli le tre diverse funzioni e di collegarle non attraverso un percorso interno, ma tramite un ballatoio comune perimetrale posto all’aperto. In continuità con un filare di bamboo esistente nell’area si è deciso di creare una foresta pensile di bambolo posta esternamente al ballatoio del piano primo con funzione di separazione dall’esterno e per creare un’oasi di quiete nel centro città. In questa foresta di bamboo sono aggiunti degli elementi pendenti, ciascuno dei quali realizzato con 108 Swarovski e con funzione di rosario buddista (Il numero 108 rappresenta le tentazioni materiali nel Buddismo) ma che sono al tempo stesso una raffigurazione del paradiso “Gokuraku” in cui risplendono i sette colori che vengono emessi dai prismi Swarovski. E’ così che il visitatore, contemplando il boschetto di bamboo dall’interno potrà dimenticarsi di trovarsi nel centro di Tokyo. まわりをビルに囲まれた、東京の両国に建つ寺院である。今回の計画では念仏堂、客殿、僧院という３つの建物機能が求められた。広大な寺所があれば、それぞれの堂宇を点在させて回廊でつなぐことにより、伽藍を形成するのであるが、都会の限られた敷地では、境内空地を確保することも重要となってくるため、３つの建物機能を縦に積み重ねることとした。ただし積み重ねた建物機能はそれぞれ独立したものであるため、伽藍形式は踏襲し、建物内部をつなぐことはせず、外周の回廊で各部を巡るようにしている。 地上レベルは境内空地とし、上空の回廊沿いに参道から連続する竹を植えることとした。この天空の竹林の中には、108個のスワロフスキーが連なった数珠柱を点在させている。これは極楽浄土の道すがらにある七宝樹林の見立てであり、プリズムが発する七色の光は、数珠を繰りながら念仏を唱えることによって往生を約束された極楽の世界を垣間見るようである。 建物の中から回廊越しに眺める竹林は、ここが東京都心のビルの谷間であることを忘れさせてくれる。
