The M and W houses are located in Piazzatorre, a mountain area that enjoys a wonderful landscape surrounded by vast pine forests characterizing the environmental context. Therefore the project was conceived in order to meet the ideas of environmental sustainability, energy-saving and architectural quality without damaging the surrounding environment, land and site ecology. The W house, which is located near the woods, is characterized by pilotis in order to ensure the continuity of ecological corridors to the ground; both houses have large panoramic terraces that allow a better view and integration with the landscape. The building technologies and the selected materials are suitable to the eco-sustainable approach: the structure of the building is characterized by Xlam laminated wood (certified wood) walls with wood fibre insulation, the roofs are covered with plants, the windows are made of high-insulating wood, the external cladding is made of larch slats, while the inner lining is made of scented wood (pine). The chosen technologies include the production of electricity from renewable sources and a centralized control system with consumption recordings. Aim of the project is also to integrate the green areas with the existing pine forests in order to protect biodiversity and the existing ecosystems.
