The project stems from the customers’ need to have a large flexible area on the ground floor and to concentrate all housing functions on the first floor. Our idea is to conceive the ground floor as a cave, a large empty space covered with stone, while a large north-facing window characterizes the first floor, so that the living room directly plunges into the landscape, enhancing the view on the Iseo Lake. The entrance is hidden and accessible by a niche on the western side. The cut in the roof and the cut on the southern wall, which faces the mountains, implode the natural light, projecting it on the blind side of the house. The house is characterized by an X-lam lamellar wood structure, isolated by 14 cm of wood fiber in order to meet the requirements of an eco-sustainable approach. The outer covering is mounted on a wall to facilitate the micro-ventilation and is characterized by larch slats with different sections that can generate thin vertical shadows, while the inner lining is made of fragrant wood (pine). The roof is covered with vegetation, so that it can more easily merge with the landscape. The chosen technologies include the production of electrical energy using renewable sources and a centralized control system with consumption recordings. The house is equipped with an in-floor radiant heating and cooling system, powered by an integrated heat pump with solar panels.
