A historic factory in Delft, The Netherlands built a century ago to make the famous Delft Blue pottery has been converted into two large houses. CHNL architects based in Delft has designed the houses and in 2008 the first house was completed by contractor Den Hoed aannemers Bergambacht. CHNL architects kept the original industrial construction that’s sympathetic to the surroundings, consisting of wooden beams and iron rods visible and by designing several atriums so that daylight can enter the whole house. The extension uses Accoya wood as a stunning external cladding finish. The Accoya is performing well and Engelen Delft the joinery company is building a second house using Accoya as a primary building material.
