The two-story Media Center has a total area of over 158,000 sq. m and is located in close proximity to the Olympic Park. During the Olympic Games in the Mountain Cluster, the Gorki Media Center will also be operating. Its opening is planned for January 24. The bureau “SPEECH Tchoban & Kuznetsov” also takes part in the designing of the Olympic objects. Contracted by the Corporation “Inzhtransstroy” it developed the concept of mail Media center of the Olympiad. In the trapezoidal section located in the Imeretinskaya valley in close proximity to the complex of the main sport constructions the Media center itself will be located including International broadcasting center and Main press center, as well as 3-star hotel for journalists with 600 beds. The total square of the building included in the complex Media center is almost 150 thousands square meters. Such considerable dimensions and the importance of the role which this complex will play made special demands to the project decisions. The architecture of the building will be carrying easily understandable subtext drawing parallels with the traditional symbols of the Olympic movement and local colour. The configuration of the complex and façade decisions providing for active use of remote construction in the shape of pergolas from horizontal lamellas, playing the role of additional protection against sun and other natural elements, not only to meet local climate conditions but also carry in themselves image-bearing compound resonating with the plastic shape of the unique Sochi relief. The last moment is stressed with the help of a “green roof” which will give the complex one more functional level, on which the arboretum with different plants will be laid out and the recreation area will be arranged. The additional factor considered and worked through in the concept became the prospective planning of use of the complex after the end of the Olympiad. In the intentions of the city authorities the trade entertaining center will be located here. That is, already now planning and engineering solutions must be laid in the project, that will provide full-grown functioning of the building, high level of efficiency and convenience of use of its infrastructure in two ways: as Media center and subsequently as modern Mega-moll. All above mentioned features of the concept suggested by the bureau “SPEECH Tchoban & Kuznetsov” were estimated and approved in the regular meeting of the Architecture section under the Technical council “GK Olympstroy” which took place on the 28th of April 2010. The chief architect of “GK Olympstroy” O.A. Kharchenko, the chief architect of Krasnodar territory U.V. Rysin, President of the Union of the architects RF A.V.
