Riverside House is a weekend retreat in Chiba prefecture, positioned on a green site slanted toward an adjacent river. From the road, the house is plotted parallel with the river, modestly clad in weathering cedar and concrete to protect against the northern wind. Two perpendicular volumes project from this at ground level towards the river, one private quarters with bedrooms and bathroom and the other a generous living space. Nestled between the two and accessed by large glazed sliding doors on each side, is an outdoor deck pushing out towards the river with views of the rich landscape.
