Tight space, tight budget, tight time frame... the best ingredients for creative design and construction ingenuity. This small milk and cookie bar is set in the historic Civic Theatre building in Auckland’s CBD. The concept evolved rapidly from a small and redundant space to dynamic and quirky interior. Use of basic materials such as strandboard and plywood formed the base palette of this fitout with custom furniture and fittings providing intricacy and intelligence to a fun environment. Textures and colours make the interior more tactile while shapes define unique solids, voids and silhouettes that cut and fill the space. The crowning jewel is a delicate light pendant made from glass milk bottles that comfortably hovers over the curious space. Our philosophy for this fitout had been about having a sense of adventure; in concept, design and execution.
