Put simply, this project’s stunning location demanded more than the standard 1960’s bungalow could provide. Overlooking the expanse of Shaldon Bay, our scheme responded to breath-taking local scenery by extending the rear and creating a panoramic view of the sea from the living accommodation and deck. Cross laminated timber panels aids speedy construction and locks carbon into the structure whilst providing a warm tactile surface finish. Clad in a rich, red locally grown Western Red Cedar, the construction references the nearby red cliffs and echoes the craftsmanship and construction techniques of the local boat building industry. The front of the building is also extended to provide an extra bedroom and whitewash is used to harmonise the brickwork and tie the new in with the old.
