This unit is designed for a private Child Day-care Centre to hold two groups of 20 children each from 3 to 7 years of age. Overall area is 0.4 ha. It’s surrounded with low-rise residential and infrastructural cluster buildings. Exceeding the minimum limit for such areas almost 2.5 times gave this project certain advantages which such social projects usually can’t have. First is that all the utility, group and administrative areas are located in one level which improves the fire safety and makes the areas available for people with limited mobility. Second is that it was possible to zone the land freely and to develop high safety and comfortable area. Another advantage is in effective area usage and organization, reduction of utility lines and communications lengths which results lower building and utility costs. An open inner area has become a distinctive feature of this private pre-school with the following features: a) Group rooms insolation b) Group rooms aeration (this effect is even better during sunny days when heated inner area surface provides air extraction) c) Easy visual monitoring as all the group rooms can be observed from the administrator room d) Recreation (during summer months this area’s function is to be a green planted recreation land) In stormy weather inner area is covered with a power-driven extendible shed. Face of the building has clean and lean look. Walls are coated as it is in the project in some places with brick and in other places with Parklex facing panels. We use decorative panels with round holes of various diameters to create compositional connection between square-shaped volumes and curved utility elements and to create accent on windows, summer terraces and the entry Territory of the Centre is divided with fences into four main zones: entry zone, which is strictly controlled by the staff, two play-grounds and one administrative zone. Due to this zoning visitors can access only the entry zone, equipped to gather open-air assemblies and Centre events with special platforms at any time of the year. During winter time this zone may have a snow fortress with chutes and other winter entertainment. Play-grounds are equipped with play-ground sets, covered with wear proof colorful sport coating with special marking. This provides safe, comfortable and lasting play-area for children. Combination of comfortable architectural style, safe materials, utility units and green planted areas creates the best environment for safe games, interaction and education.
