With “Bringing back the fun mojo of a kaiten restaurant with exceptional food quality” as Sushizilla’s mission, this beast of a sushi train restaurant draws references from Japanese comics and pop culture. Situated within the Central Park development, Sushizilla Restaurant and Sushizilla Express’s vibrant interior adds a fun-loving personality to the Chippendale Creative Precinct. Pushing the boundaries of traditional sushi train restaurant, Sushizilla offers touch screen ordering system for each patron apart from sushi available on the train. While for people on the go, Sushizilla Express offers self-serve takeaway service within a walk-in kiosk. At first glance, the neon sign, the splashes of colour and tetris-like linear geometry teleports you into the digital world of an old-school gaming arcade. Vie Studio focuses on creating an engaging shopfront façade to the restaurant as a response to the client’s brief in providing a unique dining experience. The interior pays tribute to early computer games raster graphic through the ingenious use of rectilinear geometry exhibited in the coloured square tiles and milk crates. Sushizilla’s energetic colour scheme is beautifully balanced by the subtlety of neutral engineered stone, textured paint finish and exposed concrete. The contrast between vibrancy and neutral tones adds a playful contemporary twist to the once-hip gaming arcade. The overall design is complemented by the black and white comical mural, which is the canvas of the talented artist – Siori Kitajima.
