Born from an enquiry into small-scale production this modular furniture system employs machine techniques that can be applied to small batches. Based on an interest in transparency of construction and production the system is made out of many simple parts creating an aesthetic of heterogeneous multiplicity and allow for flexible setups. The system is modular and pieces can be composed from a range of elements by stacking. The name Wrong Color comes from the idea that it is like an x-ray of a piece of furniture, processed with imaging technologies, like it happens in baggage scanners for example, to highlight differences in densities between materials and better separate them when they overlap. So the wood having the lowest density in this case it is pale. It follows the idea that it is about transparency in production and construction and the colors are crucial in highlighting the separate elements. We were looking for high contrast colors to go with the above impression of something inside showing through, to really stand out against the pale wood and also in the shadow inside the cabinets and for that we chose the best available primary colors we could have anodized, in this case of the subtractive color scheme. At the front of the piece where the yellow and cyan profiles intersect you get green reflections. The other reason to have three different colors is that the colors serve as guide in the assembly of the piece as each plane has a separate color so it aids in picking the right parts for each panel and later in assembling the panels into a box. We are looking into other colors and materials as well as the system is very flexible. The plywood panels are fixed to the aluminum bars through a press fit. The aluminum profiles have toothed profiles where they press into the wood to bite into it and secure the panels so we don't have to rely on unreliably tight tolerances. The system is for sale through the studio. As there is great flexibility in materials and colors, so custom schemes is one direction we are developing, the other is having more variety of module sizes. Year: 2013 Material: plywood, anodized aluminum
