My first thesis attempt was to use a narrow open space in the traditional city centre and design residential units that relate to the street scene and urban fabric. the site was sloping with roads on all four sides. There area have many heritage buildings. I abandoned the project later for a stronger thesis idea: An investigation into the form of the suburban shopping centre as contemporary civic space, leading to the design of a shopping centre in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth.
