An old factory space in Amsterdam North is transformed into the new office of 123 Makelaar. The assignment was to create a representative office with a tough industrial look, but with enough space for personal contact. For the client it was important to have different places to create, work, meet, relax or to receive visits. We added a mezzanine and two consulting rooms in the double high industrial space. The consulting rooms are designed as recognizable boxes in space. The mezzanine is partly made of pressed gratings to allow as much light as possible in the underlying spaces. On the mezzanine we created some beautiful, light and open workspaces, while in the boxes below the atmosphere is intimate and friendly. The beautiful glass facades between the open space and closed boxes are made of tightly fixed glass panels, which are glued together. The industrial character was the basis for look and feel of the spaces, but the new additions are clearly recognizable. The original rough walls alternate with tight-plastered walls in warm colours. Eye catcher in the interior is the stairs. The staircase is made of robust steel, stairs made of pressed gratings. The tight fence of steel continues in the balustrade emphasizes the division in space. Following our sustainability concept there are minimal new materials added. Materials that are used are mostly recycled or easy to recycle. For the flooring is chosen for jute and the furniture is made of wood scaffold. To further reduce the use of artificial light are 2 skylights installed. This old factory space is currently again fully and enthusiastically used by 123 Makelaar and with minor adjustments, a beautiful new phase in his life has started.
