The existing simple split-level brick veneer home that sat atop the White Cliffs ridgeline grossly underutilised the sweeping 180 degree views across the Mornington Peninsula and Port Philip Bay. Strict planning requirements prohibited an increase in the height of the existing house to more than two-storeys at any one point , but through a subtle shuffling of levels and circulation, a new upper storey was created, effectively establishing three sleeping and living zones across two co-joined two-storey buildings.
Local sandstone was used to create an improbably floating tower element to the entry whilst large north-facing terraces to the middle living and upper parents' level enabled the owners to maximise the available sun and views, radically transforming the liveability of the house.
