On the island of Santa Isabel. In designing this detached house on the island of Santa Isabel, the largest of the seventy islands on the Parnaíba Delta, the architect used local fisherman’s hut typology and regional construction techniques to blend the structure more effectively with its surroundings. Oriented to ensure maximum thermal comfort, the 336 sq.m, two-storey house has brick walls which separate off the sleeping quarters and project them against the strong winds and salty air. They also blend beautifully with the irregular carnauba wood frame, which has concrete and stone infill panels in the living-room, and stands open on the verandahs.
