InfoCube

InfoCube is a transformable glazed cube that can become part of the Urban Splash brand. Each part of the building can be customised by a different artist or architect for individual developments, and the internal surfaces can change for different installations. The random arrangement of the glazing allows the façade to shimmer from varying views and adds depth and complexity to the cubic form. The building opens and closes by sliding out a section of façade, which creates an outdoor space and seating area. An internal line of glazing with sliding doors opens to welcome visitors and protects the building from the weather. The internal arrangement of freestanding walls encourages people to explore, and presentation spaces can be created by sliding walls on the ground floor. The double-height space over the model allows views from above, and converts into a gallery space for sculpture or art installations once the development is completed. Tribeca InfoCube The Tribeca InfoCube is the first InfoCube and begins the development of the brand. It alters from bright blue to clear with the control of light controlling electronic sealed glazing units, which transform in colour and solar shading at different times of day. The glazing instantly becomes transparent when light levels are low, reducing dependency on artificial lighting and the energy consumption of the InfoCube. The varying transparency of the skin means alterations to the interior colours and surfaces can be read externally, allowing the activity of the building to become part of its local environment. The glazing can be “dimmed” as required and allows “blue sky” views out to the development without the glare of standard glazing. It becomes completely transparent as light levels drop, allowing the building to appear very differently as day turns into night.
