The cinema was built in 1935-36 for the fascistic youth organisation Gil (Astra Cinema) and initially formed a long and narrow, U-shaped complex along Via Roma. The central part of the building was slightly higher, flanked by two lower wings. The one towards East formed the front building of the following gym towards South, which is not maintained anymore; the wing towards West was the entrance for the oval theatre hall. In the 1960ies the hall was transformed into a cinema, preserving the original form and appearance. In collaboration with the municipality of Bressanone and the department for the preservation of historical monuments, our office realised the restoration of the entrance area towards the hall.
