The MOVING school project was established by Building Trust to create solutions for public and school buildings to serve displaced refugee and migrant communities living on the Thai-Burmese border. The project sparked a design competition which saw the winning design by Amadeo Bennetta and Dan LaRossa built last year. The building design allowed for the school to be built and disassembled and constructed again many times over responding to the lack in land rights for the displaced Burmese communities. David Cole of Building Trust said; “There are simple skills that we learned during the build and by passing them on to others we hope more people will feel they can start their own projects. Our aim with the first MOVING school project was to minimise the amount of material waste by reducing the amount of cutting needed for off the shelf 6m long pieces of steel. We have taken this idea further with the 2nd and 3rd schools reducing the need for welding. We will be releasing assembly drawings for these in the coming months. We would appreciate any feedback on this initiative and if people have ideas or can offer assistance on making the drawings more accessible we would love to hear from them.”
