An engine for urban progress Berlin / Germany / 2008

After the opening of Berlin’s new Central Station, attention has focused on the partly undeveloped area to the north of the bend in the River Spree. Consideration is being given to how the new district at the interface between culture, science and politics can be developed.
Pott Architects has been commissioned to draw up a master plan for the Art Campus Berlin project in the area around the Hamburger Bahnhof, where there are currently many warehouses and brownfield sites.
Our plans have been translated into practice with the establishment of an exhibition hall as a forum for contemporary art galleries and the revitalisation of the site intended to secure its long-term use for cultural purposes. A new location has emerged in the heart of Berlin which combines in a unique way two of the city’s outstanding assets – the diversity of its art scene and its proximity to the water.
