“Considered a shining example in recent years of a high-quality and low-cost affordable housing” the project consists of thirteen 4-floor modular buildings with 105 apartments and a mixed-use 5-floor building hosting special-needs living units and services, meeting rooms, commercial, service and recreational spaces which support the surrounding neighbourhood. Due to its periferical location in Göttingen's suburbs, “the particular value of the project lies in its urban character. Rarely in residential construction, has there been such a special configuration; a slight bend of the road creates the first impact in the perception of space, immediately evoking the idea of a residential neighborhood within a strong urbanity. The building’s ground floor allows for the viewing of individual residential units, breaking the typical linear effect of construction. The unity of the entire sculptural complex is strengthened, creating a “place,” or “neighborhood: the building glows with urban living. Overall, it reaches an atmosphere of high intensity of the “present,” without being bound to the fashion of the moment, creating a permanent value for the future”.
The careful study of the envelope and an efficient heat recovery system has allowed the building to reach an enhanced quality life for its inhabitants and high energy savings by using little technical effort.

Statement of the Jury – ARCHITEKTURPREIS ZUKUNFT WOHNEN 2009

"Considerato un brillante esempio di social housing economico e di alta qualità", il progetto consiste in tredici edifici modulari di 4 piani dove si trovano 105 appartamenti e un edificio misto di 5 piani che ospita unità abitative e servizi per persone esigenze speciali, sale riunioni, spazi commerciali, di servizio e ricreativi a supporto della popolazione del quartiere. La sua posizione periferica nei sobborghi di Göttingen ha evidenziato che “il valore particolare del progetto risiede nel suo carattere urbano. Raramente nell'edilizia residenziale, c'è stata una configurazione così speciale; una leggera curva della strada crea il primo impatto nella percezione dello spazio, evocando immediatamente l'idea di un quartiere residenziale all'interno di una forte urbanità. Il piano terra dell'edificio consente la vista delle singole unità abitative, rompendo il tipico effetto lineare . L'unità dell'intero complesso scultoreo si rafforza, creando un "luogo" o "quartiere": l'edificio brilla di vita urbana. Complessivamente, raggiunge un'atmosfera di alta intensità del "presente", senza essere legato alla moda del momento, creando un valore permanente per il futuro ".
Con poco sforzo tecnico, un attento studio dell'involucro e un efficiente sistema di recupero del calore è stato possibile raggiungere un incremento sostenuto della qualità di vita per gli abitanti e un notevole risparmio energetico.
