Architectural tradition helps us to understand the context and is the first indicator in constructing an eco – ambient development.
Milan has been in a period of urban restoration and reconstruction for some years. In a typical geometrical industrial development area, previously known as Ansaldo, changes are being made to create an office headquarters.
Our response is a project in strong harmony with the urban surroundings, the building is constructed in line with the east/west path of the sun.
The project is an interpretation of traditional industrial architecture and intelligently uses the sun and extant structures.
The façades respond to their exposure to the sun by creating “Loggias” and terraces with split levels, adding a third dimension to the external envelope which in turn adds volume to the building and makes it a very pleasant working environment.
A twelve metre clear span structure enables maximum internal flexibility.
Underground areas such as parking, a technical room and storage room are connected to the main levels by the two main spines.
A five storey, 100 metre long south facing façade with 5000 m2 of above ground usable area has a strong presence for its urban context.
We wanted a green building: Loggias working as sunshades like hanging gardens, low level building material consumption and recyclable construction materials are some of the key aspects aimed at responding to the climate change challenges of today and the future.
Green Screen also has a role in the Community: it is open to the public, the Main entrance provides a position from where it is possible to view Milan from the top floor terrace, where there it also a restaurant.
