Pia Wustenberg
Pia Wustenberg was born in Germany. She grew up with dual nationality (Finnish mother, German father) and from an early age split her time between her two home countries. At the age of 15 she moved to England, Surrey for her final school years, followed by a foundation degree in Glass, Ceramic and Metal Design at Surrey Institute of Art and Design. This was followed by three years at Bucks New University, studying Furniture Design and Craftsmanship. In 2008 Pia graduated with a collection of mixed media furniture, having spend her final year focused on wood construction in combination with other materials (ceramic, glass, leather). She moved to North Karelia, Finland, to set up her studio piadesign and work with local materials and craftsmen. A year later Pia moved to London for her postgraduate studies in Design Products at the Royal College of Arts, continuing her research into craft and materials in contemporary culture. Following her postgraduate, piadesign has relocated to London and began new working collaborations with international clients and brands. In 2011 Pia set up her own company ‘Utopia & Utility’ for the promotion and production of her crafted designs.
