Born in Mexico City, Mario obtained a degree in Architecture from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1968. He proceeded to obtain a Master Degree in Landscape Architecture with an emphasis in urban design at the University of California, Berkeley in 1970. In 1984 he was selected as a Loeb Fellowship at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University.
