Maria Porro was born in Como in 1983. She graduated with honours in Set Design from the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera and now works in Milan as set designer, costume designer and designer. A finalist at the Premio Nazionale delle Arti (national arts award) in 2008 with the “Sotterraneo” project, she worked on the subjects of "theatre outside the theatre" and of how to make the most of city spaces. Porro's “Material house” project, in 2007, in association with the Lissoni studio, applied the material techniques of scenography to designing. She has always been interested in stylistic contamination and is experimenting with the use of video in set design for the theatre. In 2008, as part of this project she participated in the production of the ballet “The Nutcracker” at His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth, under the guidance of the set designer Edoardo Sanchi. She is working as set designer and costume designer with the “Container Teatro” company.
