Luis Vidal was born in Barcelona (Spain) and now lives and works in Madrid. He studied architecture at the University of Greenwich (London, UK) were he graduated with honours in 1994, being elected a full member of the RIBA in 1995. He specialised in airports, offices, housing and museums. From 1998 to 2001, he was assistant professor in projects and design at Madrid’s University (ETSAM). Between 1999 and 2003, he was Lamela Architects (LA) Managing Director, becoming partner on 2000. He was Project Director of the New Terminal for Madrid’s Airport from the origin –in 1996- right to the end to the project, a joint venture between Richard Rogers Partnership (RRP) and LA.

In 2003 he started his own business, founding Vidal y Asociados Arquitectos (VAa). Shortly after, became partner of Richard Rogers Partnership in Spain. In less than two years, VAa has been awarded first price in competitions such as: Zaragoza’s New Terminal Airport and Vallecas Hospital with Araujo Berned s.l. Together with RRP it has won international competition for a Sustainable Business Park in Seville, as well as the Masterplan for 90 ha., of land available in Valladolid’s city centre, following the high speed train tracks being buried. VAa has been also awarded with interior design projects such as Arola’s Restaurant at the new extension to the Reina Sofia’s Contemporary Art Museum. Recently VAa has been awarded the full renovation of a representative hotel at Madrid’s centre by a Global Hotel corporation, as well as a grant to further develop its investigation in sustainable materials and building skins.
