Julian Appelius
Julian Appelius was born in Munich in 1973 and grew up in France and Germany. After the high school he made an apprenticeship as carpenter and studied sculpture at the Academy of Arts in Munich, afterwards he studied Industrial Design at the University of Arts in Berlin and graduated in 2003 founding his office there. The focus of his work is the conceptual product. The game with learned see- and acting-habits, new interpretation of contexts and the fully use of materials and technical possibilities form the basis of formally reduced design. Furthermore he works as graph-, interior, fairs- and exposition-designer. Among others, Maurer, Pulpo, Konstantin Slawinski, Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin, Ereignisbüro (BMW, BMW Mini, Bogner, Diesel, Dom Perignon, Swarovski, Marc O´Polo), VDW, Nihola Bikes count to his customers. He participated at diverse expositions in several international fairs, for example Salone Satellite Milan, ICFF New York, Louvre und Gallery VIA Paris, Light&Building Frankfurt, IMM Cologne, young+german Tokyo, RED Moscow. Awards: RSA Ceramic Industry Forum Award 2004, First Price Promosedia International Design Competition 2007, Honorable Mention Alcantara LAB Competition 2007, Selected Rilegno Competition 2007.
