Jo Gillies came to Australia as a 10 year old – one of the ten pound pom immigrants– having spent her early childhood between the UK and the Bahamas. Her father died tragically when Jo was a toddler. Jo’s grandfather, Edgar Shreeve, the captain of Winston Churchill’s private home guard army, stepped into the fatherly role and was highly influential in her early years – constantly spurring her on to reach for the stars.
