Elvin den Haan (1964), a co-founder of Lonc, is a man of many talents. As a promising young musician, he opted to forego a conservatory education when, as a lefty, he faced a significant investment to convert a standard (right-handed) contrabass. Instead he studied graphic design and typography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (The Netherlands). While still attending, he started up his own company and worked for 18 years as a graphic designer before establishing Lonc in 2010 and shifting his focus from two-dimensions to three. Along the way, he remained active in the music world as a bass player, drummer, and percussionist. In all his design work, Elvin is guided by a fundamental principle: “Whenever you design, if you focus on the negative spaces, the form will come naturally.”
