Eckhard Hansen was born in Germany in 1940. He started practicing furniture design and production in 1976 and, in 1982, he founded Swiss Design where he produces his own designs. Hansen has received many awards from the Design Center and has worked for international companies such as Comforto(Germany), Sita (Switzerland), Allsteel (USA) and Dyna Mobel (Spain). He is best known for his "24 hour chair" and "Automatic Synchron Mechanism" that enables the chair to automatically adapt to individual body weight. He owns various international patents and copyrights.
