He considers himself an eclectic art and antiques collector and dealer who appreciates timeless objects and disdains fashionable ones. He is president of the Vervoordt Foundation and the founder of the company of the same name. His first project, dating back to the early 1970s, the revitalization of an entire medieval street in the heart of the Belgian city of Antwerp, enabled him to occupy a special place in the art world that he has maintained to this day. Since 2007 he has held a series of exhibitions in Venice and Paris, earning international acclaim. His family home, Gravenwezel Castle and 'Kanaal,' both near Antwerp, display an eclectic combination of Eastern and Western styles through pieces of high artistic value. In 2011 the 'Axel Vervoordt' Gallery opened in Antwerp with pieces from the 'Gutai' and 'Zero' groups and contemporary works having the same style reflecting Vervoordt's early interest in these artists.
