Born in Nagpur, India, Avinash Shende studied Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi (IIT Delhi) where he graduated with a Masters in Design. Avinash Shende acquired many years of professional experience in the crafts trade, and especially focussing on bamboo. He later studied Design at the Domus Academy in Milan where he also earned a Masters. Since then, he has been teaching at IIT Guwahati in India while also working as an Industrial Designer. His approach to design is driven by a creative quest for what people really need as well as a new aesthetic quality based on a sound knowledge of materials and technology. His motto is that design should serve humanity. Avinash Shende lives and works in India.
