He is Ph.D. student in Evaluation and Mitigation of Urban and Land Risks of the University of Catania.
In 2013, he participated in a research project concerning the use of laser scanner technology for the digital survey in the University of Catania. In his graduation project, called “IL VERDE OLTRE LE SBARRE - Progetto di un istituto a custodia attenuata nell'antica miniera di Grottacalda”, he developed the idea to convert the buildings of the ancient mine of Grottacalda into an open prison, an institute designed as a community for 57 inmates involved in agricultural activities in the surrounding lands and products processing inside the prison.
In 2015 with this project, he won the First Prize in Archiprix Italy 2015 Award and became a finalist of the LIFEBILITY AWARD V 2015 competition in Milan. Two years later, his graduation project was selected as the best faculty project of the University of Catania for the Archiprix International 2017 Award in Ahmedabad.
Nowadays, as Ph.D. student he is working on a research on smart architecture components for mitigation of urban and land risks. Specifically, he evaluate the possibility to integrate photovoltaic cells on a flexible substrate in composite, in order to realize a smart envelope to use as shelter.
He has attended numerous courses and workshops on the use of 3D printers, BIM and parametric modelling software, as ArchiCAD, Rhinoceros and Grasshopper. He is also following a research projects on the reuse of the Industrial Archaeology Heritage.
For three years, he worked as Engineer in two local architecture ateliers, where he participated in many projects. In this role, he deepened the local building technologies both for new constructions and for the refurbishment of the traditional ones. In those years, he focused the attention on the importance of the reuse of the existent buildings, highlighting the energy issues. In 2017 he founded his own firm.
