Date: 05.06.2009 - 28.06.2009
Place: Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts 17 University Embankment, St. Petersburg, Russia

The exhibition at the Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts presents 64 landscapes by the renowned Italian artist Ettore de Conciliis. The highlights of the display are the artist’s recent works.
Ettore de Conciliis was born in Avellino (Italy) in 1941. From 1958 to 1963 he studied at the architecture department in the universities of Naples and Rome. The artist lives in Rome and actively works in association with modern Italian sculptors.
In 1965, he created his first monumental wall painting “The Canvas of Peace – Atom Bomb and Peaceful Coexistence” for a church of St. Francesco in Avellino that was far beyond the limits of usual political and religious advocacy. The canvas was a subject to such sharp criticism and heated public controversy, that Pope Paul VI invited the young artist for a private audience.
In the 1970s Ettore de Conciliis was mostly involved in monumental wall painting and was commissioned to create works for many Italian cities. In 1971 he went to Mexico to perfect his skills in the studio of the famous master of monumental wall painting David Alfaro Siqueiros.
Since 1975, Ettore de Conciliis has digressed from monumental art and wall painting and prefers the genre of landscaping and still life. The source of his inspiration is the Tiber valley to the north of Rome, as well as the northeast and northwest sea coasts of the United States.
