By the end of 2007, the new Civil Protection Center was completed on the outskirts of Innichen in the South Tyrolean High Puster Valley; the building accommodates the local Volunteer Fire Brigade, the White Cross Emergency Medical Service and the Mountain Rescue Service in a common structure.
The project responds to the location on the East-side village entrance and to the small-scale single family housing in the direct surroundings; it is an outpost of the village’s building area which, as is usual, sprawls on the fringes. The fire brigade training is a landmark – a frame for a panoramic view and a welcome sign – an oversized 3-D postcard.
The built volume of the Civil Protection Center is ten times that of nearby houses. In order to lessen this contrast, the building makes use of the natural topography and integrates into the sloping mountainside in the north.
Stretched out alongside the tangential road, the cubature naturally fits into its immediate context.

Verso la fine del 2007 nella periferia del Comune di San Candido nell’Alta Pusteria altoatesina, viene completato il nuovo Centro di Protezione civile che accoglie le forze dei vigili del fuoco volontari, della Croce Bianca e del Soccorso Alpino in un’unica struttura.
La nuova costruzione reagisce al suo collocamento nei pressi dell’imbocco est della cittadina e agli edifici circostanti di dimensione ridotta, e rappresenta l’avamposto dell’assetto urbano che ai margini si disperde nella tipica espansione urbana. La torre per le esercitazioni dei vigili del fuoco costituisce un landmark, un punto panoramico incorniciato con saluto di benvenuto – una grande cartolina tridimensionale.
La massa edificabile necessaria per il Centro di Protezione civile è all’incirca dieci volte maggiore a quella degli edifici esistenti nel vicinato. Questo contrasto, però, è mitigato dal fatto che la costruzione sfrutti la topografia naturale, integrandosi, dal lato nord, nella collina. Essendo posizionata parallelamente alle strade tangenti, la cubatura si inserisce quasi naturalmente nel contesto immediato.

Am Ortsrand der Gemeinde Innichen im Südtiroler Hochpustertal wurde Ende 2007 das neue Zivilschutzzentrum fertiggestellt, ein Gebäude, das die Einsatzkräfte von freiwilliger Feuerwehr, Weißem Kreuz und Bergrettungsdienst in einer gemeinsamen Struktur beherbergt.
Der Neubau reagiert auf die Lage an der östlichen Dorfeinfahrt und die kleinteilige Bebauung in der unmittelbaren Umgebung und bildet den Vorposten der dörflichen Bebauungsstruktur, die an den Rändern in der üblichen Zersiedelung ausläuft. Der Übungsturm der Feuerwehr wird zum Landmark - als gerahmter Panoramablick mit Willkommensgruß - eine überdimensionale 3D-Postkarte.
Die für das Zivilschutzzentrum erforderliche Baumasse beträgt etwa das zehnfache der benachbarten bestehenden Gebäude. Dieser Kontrast ist entschärft, indem das Gebäude die natürliche Topografie nutzt und sich am Nordrand in den Hang integriert. Parallel zu den tangierenden Straßen, fügt sich die Kubatur wie selbstverständlich in den unmittelbaren Kontext.
