Marseille-based architect firm Comac has transformed a 17th-century barn in the French village of Charroux into a modern restaurant while maintaining the heritage of the original building.

The architects have left the structure of the barn largely untouched by building the restaurant’s kitchen and dining room in two separate plywood and glass boxes constructed on wooden supports within the building’s original walls.

Visitors can walk around the outside of the restaurant room to observe the traditional stone walls and wooden beams, while looking out onto the mediaeval village.

This is a great example of a restaurant harnessing consumer demand for experience-based dining
