The architectural concept is deeply connected to the necessary feature for such a program, as well as to the existing landscape. It was essential to answer this problem vigorously. Our will is double: think of a functional project, and, set up a place of life in agreement with the Mediterranean climatic conditions. This has to take place as simply as possible, with humility and efficiency. We thus propose simple volumes for the whole building, with sober and pure lines to assert its insertion in the site.

A particular attention is so brought to the insertion of the building in the site. It is conceived as a topographic line, drawn by a unique material (wood), offering it a spatial but also a visual unity. It is under this landscape line established by a flat roof that the entities of the program take place. It was thought to emphasize the surrounding landscape while identifying and protecting exploitable outer spaces. Conceived in the continuity of the surrounding vegetable masses, these limits ease the incidence of the new building in the landscape and create a visual and hearing filter protecting the workspaces of the outside nuisances. So, the building consists of a fold, developing two side walls constituted in a homogeneous way.

The project proposes a stake in retreat of the glazed facades and the implementation of wooden canopies connecting the high and low entities of the fold. This device creates a thick façade, protecting from the sun, while allowing taking advantage of a direct connection between the inside and the outside thanks to wide openings. The device also allows a spatial and visual continuity while answering the Mediterranean climatic constraints. The project is completely wooden built. It is an environmental choice which we made by working with local essences of pines, but also in order to assure a technical, constructive and functional simplicity.

We are aware that in this place, in the heart of a wooded space but also in an urban zone, the notion old perpetuity is a real stake of construction. The reflection we wish to set up is of order qualitative. We answer it by the implementation of long-lasting materials, by the adapted conception of the building and its arrangements, allowing a cost cutting of maintenance for the project owner and the users, as well as by the potentiality offered to the new building to adapt itself to the requirements of environmental quality.

Thinking of a sustainable development requires naturally taking into account the quality of materials, to make a technical work on the energies uses, but also to set up a logic space. It is in the sense that we undertook this project. The intervention we propose restores coherence and feature to the site entities thanks to a new spatial scenography and to the development of the existing heritage.


Le parti architectural est très intimement lié à la fonctionnalité nécessaire pour un tel programme, ainsi qu’au paysage existant. Il était essentiel d’y répondre avec vigueur. Notre volonté est double : penser un projet fonctionnel et, mettre en place un lieu de vie en accord avec les conditions climatiques méditerranéennes. Ceci devant s’opérer le plus simplement possible, avec humilité et efficacité. Nous adoptons des volumes simples pour l’ensemble du bâtiment et des lignes épurées, sobres pour souligner son insertion dans le site.

Ainsi une attention particulière est apportée à son insertion dans le site. Il est donc conçu comme une ligne topographique dessinée par un seul et même matériaux (du bois) lui offrant une unité spatiale mais aussi visuelle. C’est sous cette ligne de paysage constituée par une toiture plate que les entités du programme viennent prendre place. Elle a été pensée afin de mettre en valeur le paysage environnant tout en identifiant et protégeant des espaces extérieurs exploitables. Conçu dans la continuité des masses végétales environnantes ces limites atténuent l’incidence d’un nouveau bâtiment dans le paysage et créent un filtre visuel et auditif préservant les espaces de travail des nuisances extérieures. Ainsi, le bâtiment se compose d’un pli développant deux façades latérales constituée de manière homogène.

Le projet propose une mise en retraits des façades vitrées et la mise en place de brise soleil en bois reliant les entités hautes et basses du pli. Ce dispositif permet de créer une épaisseur à la façade qui génère une protection solaire tout en pouvant profiter grâce à de larges ouvertures, d’une liaison directe entre l’intérieur et l’extérieur. Le dispositif permet également une continuité spatiale et visuelle tout en répondant aux contraires climatiques propre à la méditerranée. Le projet est entièrement construit en bois. C’est un choix environnemental que nous avons fait en travaillant avec des essences de pins locaux, mais aussi afin d’assurer une simplicité technique, constructive et fonctionnelle.

Nous sommes conscients qu’en ce lieu, au coeur d’un espace boisé et néanmoins dans une zone urbaine, la notion de pérennité est un réel enjeu de la construction. La réflexion que nous souhaitons mettre en place est d’ordre qualitative, nous y répondons par, la mise en oeuvre de matériaux pérennes, par la conception adaptée de bâtiment et des aménagements, permettant la réduction des coûts de maintenance pour le maître d’ouvrage et les utilisateurs. Ainsi que par la potentialité offerte au nouveau bâtiment de s’adapter aux exigences de qualité environnementale.

Penser un développement durable passe bien sur par la prise en compte qualitative des matériaux, un travail technique sur la gestion des énergies, mais également par une logique l’agencement des lieux. C’est en ce sens que nous avons entrepris ce projet, en s’inscrivant dans le temps. L’intervention que nous proposons permet de redonner cohérence et fonctionnalité à l’ensemble par le biais d’une nouvelle scénographie spatiale et une mise en valeur du patrimoine existant.
