The brief was calling for a building, that would incorporate several functions: student housing, SOHOs, exhibition spaces.
The site is located on the territory of Politecnico di Milano.
The main aim was to create a sustainable building. It incorporates technologies that help to minimize primary energy demand (heat pump, PV panels, radiant panels).
The concept is based on a module.
The size of a module is 8x8 meters and it contains two-bedroom apartment. The modules are arranged together to create a volume.
Designed to become a part of the Politecnico di Milano campus, the new building responds to the existing on site Dipartimento di Fisica edifice by incorporating an idea of exposed steel structure.
The elevation reflects the orientation of the building. Southern facade is completely glazed. Which allows to take inside the maximum possible amount of sunlight during the winter. The northern elevation has minimum amount of glazing, to prevent an excessive thermal loss.
