CONCEPT:
To commemorate the scenario of
the savage exploitation and
brutality on the poor farmers of Bengal
during the Colonial period.
The Indigo at those times was produced
manually at by a pressing machine, which
was being operated by the farmers.
The main concept of the memorial is
derived from this manual Indigo making
machine.
The entire walkway is designed as such
that it’s scale and structure
gives an experience of immence
tension and feeling of insignificance
to the viewer, while walking underneath.
It gives a feeling of
tension as if it’s going to crash from
above, thus signifying the
helplessness of the deprived farmers
under the opression of the English.
