1. Most Important Goals

- To propose an alternative bioclimatic the block, valid for recycling, and for the growth of the city.

- Propose a grouping structure housing such that it will stimulate and enhance human relationships, and improve their quality of life.

2. Architectural Solution

The proposed design contest a particular site, and a typology of closed block to fit 105 homes.

The proposed solution first of all wants to create "shadow", and a set of perimeter spaces, capable of substantially improving the quality of life of people and their social and neighborhood.

Thus the 4 faces of the block have been drilled in several places, so that you have created a set of micro-blocks, arranged around the central space. These perforations permeate the visual impact of construction, easy access into the courtyard, and provide a better integration into the urban fabric of the city.


In the holes, as a perimeter yards, terraces are arranged large neighborhood, creating a set of social microclimates that encourage the social, environmental and microclimate that allows cool outside air.

The interior of the block is covered by a set of awnings to create shade and lower air temperature. Therefore, the yard contains several sources, water sprays and thick vegetation.

The types are very simple, and allows the homes to be grouped easily creating micro-blocks, which are articulated and interconnected by means of perimeter walkways. These walkways around and cross the central courtyard, encouraging and stimulating social relations.

To strengthen the image of "oasis" of the whole, the exterior walls reflect austerity, it invites tears through the perimeter, and pass into the courtyard. In this court shows an explosion of color and life, in order to improve the quality of life for its users.

3. Bioclimatic characteristics

1.1. Heat Generation Systems
In the housing environment is very warm, so warm bioclimatic systems need not be very effective. Basically, proper insulation, which avoids energy losses, and a high level of illumination, which creates a greenhouse effect.

1.2. Fresh Generation Systems
In contrast, bioclimatic systems refresh, if you need to be very effective. The houses are cool in themselves, in three ways: 1. Avoiding hot, providing the bulk of the glass surface in the perimeter covered patios, decreasing the surface full of holes that overlook the streets outside, providing sun protection for the direct and indirect solar radiation (a type of protection to different each of the holes with different orientation), and providing adequate insulation. 2. Cooling by a cooling air architecture by means of underground galleries. The air is collected at the place where it is cooler in the perimeter covered patios. This air is directed to the underground galleries and cools, giving up its heat to the underground walls. The fresh air comes into the central covered courtyard, which once again cooled by water evaporation. The patio is covered and filled with vegetation, which maintains a large volume of fresh air 3. Evacuating the hot air outside homes, using solar chimneys located on the roof gardens.

3. Storage systems
Generated during the cool summer night (for natural ventilation and outside due to lower temperature) is accumulated in the floors and interior load-bearing walls of high thermal inertia. In this way the houses remain fresh all day without any energy consumption. During the day, homes are not heated, because soda systems used.
The roof garden (about 25 cm. Of land) of high thermal inertia, in addition to proper isolation, and helps maintain stable temperatures inside the houses.

4. Transfer systems (heat or cool).
The fresh air rises through the central courtyard and enters each house, through a set of screens located in the front courtyard. The fresh air through all the rooms of the houses perimeter vents through the interior passage doors. When heated air rises and escapes through the top of the windows of the perimeter walls, and through a set of solar chimneys located on the roof garden. The type of housing is designed specifically to optimize these flows of air through the interior corridors.

5. Natural ventilation
The ventilation of the building is a continuous and natural, through the very walls surround, allowing adequate ventilation without energy loss. This type of ventilation is possible as all materials are breathable (ceramic, lime-cement mortar, paint silicates), although the whole performance has a completely waterproof.

4. Outstanding innovations

- Interpretation bioclimatic "apple", as proposed for recycling and the growth of the city, in very hot climates.

- Correct architectural integration of solar collectors.
