Hotel The Exchange is a new concept of Otto Nan and Suzanne Oxenaar, who also initiated Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy and the Llove Hotel in Tokyo. The rooms of The Exchange are being dressed as if they are fashion models by (former) students of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Together with the Textile Museum in Tilburg special fabrics were being developed for the outfits of the hotel rooms.
December 2011 Hotel The Exchange will open in Amsterdam.
Matthijs van Cruijsen and Ina Meijer are designer duo Ina-Matt. They were responsible for the interiordesign of the hotel and have managed the AMFI students who fitted out the rooms. Essential to thisprocess was to find a form which strongly emphasized the characteristics of the individual designers.
The work of Ina-Matt is open to randomness and coincidence, which lends their projects a distinctly human signature. The main themes of their work are light, space and tactility.
In The Exchange these are expressed in the design for the runners, with yarns made from surplus goods, and in the design of the tiles, which are the skin of the building. This inside-out tile which they created together with Mosa has a dull structure that has been glazed, inviting to touch.
Hotel The Exchange has 61 rooms, ranging from 1 to 5 stars. Each room has been designed and dressed by graduates and alumni of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI). The rooms are as diverse and inspiring, as the neighborhood the hotel lies in.The romantic at heart can fall asleep in a Marie Antoinette-inspired room where a huge dress drapes over the walls and unto the bed. Or, if you prefer a more minimal look, opt for a room that is based on the old fairy tale of the Emperor’s New Clothes.
Hotel The Exchange is a concept by Suzanne Oxenaar and Otto Nan, initiators of the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy. Hotel The Exchange is part of ‘The Red Carpet,’ an urban-renewal project that is aimed at giving the Damrak a more diverse and fashionable look.
The hotel is located in three buildings, of which the oldest dates back to the 17th century. In the same buildings there is a 230 m2 contemporary department store Options! and a restaurant Stock that serves breakfast till late.
