Riverside Museum can still be busy at weekends. If you find the museum car park full, there is alternative parking at the Kelvin Hall, Bunhouse Road, opposite the old Museum of Transport - roadside parking as well as a car park. Riverside is approximately 10 minutes walk - follow the green city walking signs. This car park is also convenient for a visit to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
The parking charge at Riverside is £1 for 3 hours. At the Kelvin Hall, parking is £1 for 4 hours in the car park. Please note that the roadside parking is charged at a higher rate.
Don't forget, there's also The Tall Ship, which offers a fascinating insight into life on the high seas in the 19th Century.
Il progetto è parte del più ampio programma di espansione urbana della città, noto come “Glasgow Harbour”, che prevede un nuovo insediamento residenziale con strutture per attività di terziario e tempo libero.
Sorgendo nel punto in cui convergono i due principali fiumi di Glasgow, il Kelvin ed il Clyde, la nuova struttura abbraccerà un’area che le consentirà di collegare la città al fiume; sarà una specie di tunnel le cui estremità si apriranno rispettivamente sul paesaggio urbano e sul lungofiume.
Il percorso che collega le due estremità del “tunnel” presenta la tipica fluida geometria che caratterizza le architetture della nota progettista anglo-irachena; una figura che sembra contenere un’onda in movimento da cui prendono forma delle “pieghe” visibili sulla copertura in zinco.
Il profilo della copertura si sviluppa lungo un percorso a zig zag che termina con una facciata vetrata che chiude l’estremità che si affaccia sul fiume Clyde.
I visitatori avranno accesso al museo dal lato nord, l’estremità che si affaccia sulla città, e seguiranno un lungo percorso espositivo, caratterizzato dallo scultoreo soffitto a onde, che li condurrà sino alla estremità sud dell’edificio, il lato che si affaccia sul fiume.
