.The Moscow Gas Factory was built in 1985 by the team of English architects. During its lifetime the factory survived four reconstructions and many unregulated and chaotic modifications. As a result the complex lost its original beauty and stylistic integrity. The historical buildings are in a bad condition and need to be reconstructed.
Nowadays some spaces of the factory are sublet by different private activities: photo studios, design studios, show rooms, architectural studios. The nightclub and a recording studio are situated here. Other spaces host cultural and fashion events.
The aim of the project is restoration and preservation of the architectural heritage, rehabilitation of the post-industrial area and creation of a public complex suited for cultural activity.
The intervention consists of two parts. Reconstruction of historical buildings and construction of two new bodies: museum and library.
The historical buildings are reconstructed to host current and new functions: areas for architectural studios and show rooms, hotel, commercial centre for artists and designers, recording studios.
The museum building consists of exhibitions rooms, concert hall for 900 places and two lobbies.
