Barn House VF is a small unit in the isolated Icelandic west fjords.
Aðalvík beach is extremely north (66°22' N - 23°00' W) and is one of the most remote places in Iceland.
The location calls for a choice of light wood frame modules because of the inaccessibility of the beach; the only access is during the summer by sea with small fishing boats.
The aim of the project is to build on the original site of an old barn house.
The main wood module is based on a static arch form repeated along the main axis. Great parts of the components are based on simple rectangular sections (15/25x150 mm) of hard gray wood. The simple form comes from the analysis of the Icelandic barn house heritage that perfectly fits with the soul of the place.

Barn House VF è una piccola unità abitativa negli isolati fiordi dell’ovest islandesi.
La spiaggia di Aðalvík è localizzata estremamente a nord (66°22' N - 23°00' W) ed è una delle aree più remote dell’Islanda.
A causa della inaccessibilità della spiaggia la scelta costruttiva si è basata sull’individuazione di moduli leggeri in legno ; l’unico accesso si ha via mare durante la breve stagione estiva e con piccole barche da pesca.
Lo scopo del progetto è dunque di costrire una piccola unità abitativa a scopo estivo sull’originale sito di una preesistente fattoria.
Il modulo principale in legno è costituito da portali statici ripettuti lungo l’asse principale. Gran parte dei componenti sono costituiti da sezioni rettangolari (15/25x150 mm) di legno duro grigio. La semplicità della scelta compositiva deriva dall’analisi della tradizione architettonica delle abitazioni agricole che si armonizzano con l’anima del luogo stesso.
